The design of the spiral flute tap allows for the easy removal of chips and debris from the hole being tapped. They are often made from high-speed steel or carbon materials, which provide long tool life and excellent wear resistance.
A spiral flute tap features a series of helical flutes or grooves that spiral around the body of the tap, starting at the tip and extending to the shank. As the tap rotates, these flutes or grooves channel the chips and debris up and out of the hole being tapped, preventing them from clogging the tap or causing damage to the workpiece.
